Ieri J.K. Rowling si è lasciata andare ad alcuni tweet transfobici e per questo motivo molti dei suoi fan le si sono rivoltati contro. Non è la prima volta che la comunità LGBTQ si trova in contrasti con l’autrice di Harry Potter, ma ciò che è accaduto ieri ha avuto particolare risonanza. Addirittura, i fan sono partiti dai personaggi creati dalla stessa donna per farla render conto delle sue azioni. In special modo, si è sottolineato che il personaggio di Cho Chang, unico personaggio asiatico nella serie, ha un nome incredibilmente stereotipato e, di conseguenza, razzista. A quel punto è entrata in scena Katie Leung, che nei film prodotti da Warner Bros. interpreta proprio Cho.
“Volete sapere cosa ne penso di questa faccenda legata a Cho Chang? Okay, iniziamo…”. Tuttavia, piuttosto che far partire un thread come in molti si sarebbero aspettati, l’attrice ha condiviso una serie di link attraverso cui donare o aiutare la comunità transessuale dalla pelle nera. Si è trattato di un gesto sicuramente carico di significato, visto e considerato che la Rowling ha deciso di fare questa sua uscita infelice in un momento in cui l’attenzione dei media dovrebbe essere concentrata sul movimento del #BlackLivesMatter.
