Game of Thrones, la famosissima serie HBO basata sui romanzi di George R. R. Martin, guida la classifica delle nominations di questi Emmy Awards con ben 22 candidature. Il Saturday Night Live di NBC e Westworld (sempre di HBO) seguono con 21 nominations a testa. The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, di casa FX, comanda la speciale classifica legata alle miniserie con ben 18 candidature, mentre Atlanta, ancora di FX, spicca tra le commedie con 16 nominations. Netflix ha sorpassato HBO come network/piattaforma con più candidature con il risultato di 112 a 108.
Colin Jost e Michael Che saranno i presentatori della settantesima edizione degli Emmy Awards e la premiazione, che si terrà al Microsoft Theater di Los Angeles, sarà trasmessa il 17 settembre 2018 su NBC.
