La notizia che vi abbiamo riportato ieri che durante la cerimonia degli Oscar 2019 verrano annunciati i vincitori di ben 4 premi durante gli spot pubblicitari ha scaturito subito forti critiche all’Academy e ABC, tra cui quella di Alfonso Cuarón, regista del film Roma candidato a ben 10 Premi Oscar.
Le categorie escluse dalla cerimonia degli Academy Awards sono i premi per miglior fotografia, montaggio, cortometraggio e trucco. Questa è una decisione resa nota ad agosto, presa in comune accordo dall’Academy e l’emittente televisiva Statunitense ABC, ma solo in questi giorni sono state rese note quali sarebbero state le quattro categorie escluse dalla diretta.
Cuarón ha così commentato la scelta dell’Academy sul suo account Twitter:
In the history of CINEMA, masterpieces have existed without sound, without color, without a story, without actors and without music. No one single film has ever existed without CINEMAtography and without editing.

A questo commento di Alfonso Cuarón si è unito un’altro collega Messicano, Guillermo Del Toro, vincitore lo scorso anno di ben 4 premi Oscar con La Forma dell’Acqua. Del Toro, sempre tramite il suo account twitter, ha definito questa scelta inappropriata, in quanto fotografia e montaggio sono parti fondamentali della produzione cinematografica.

Ai due registi messicani si sono uniti altri addetti ai lavori, profondamente amareggiati dalla scelta dell’Academy.
Ad esempio, lo sceneggiatore e produttore Chris Schleicher si è unito al coro, dichiarando

Anche Emmanuel Lubezki, collaboratore proprio alla fotografia in diversi film di Cuarón, candidato otto volte e vincitore di tre Oscar, ha ribadito il concetto:

La cerimonia della consegna degli Oscar si svolgerà si terrà il 24 febbraio al Dolby Theatre di Los Angeles.
